My late husband, Peter Robertson was CEO of Dumfries YMCA/YMCA at its base in 24 Castle Street Dumfries from 1976 until it became just a YMCA. The old YWCA hostel on the corner of the road down to the old swimming pool was sold and the proceeds went towards buying the joint building.
In Peter’s time at the YWCA/YMCA there was extensive youth work, discos, a strong badminton club and a country churches youth group on a Friday night. Peter led many young people’s trips abroad including to France and exchange trips to the USA.
