Lucy Kleppang is a MA Psychology graduate from the University of Dundee and a Mental Health and Wellbeing Worker with Penumbra, whose work centres on disability, mental health and health inequalities.

Her standout achievement is an open-access accessibility toolkit she created and published independently on Zenodo. The toolkit helps university student societies build local venue accessibility lists, tackling the information gaps that cause anxiety, avoidance and social withdrawal for disabled students at society events. It includes a step-by-step process guide, a venue enquiry email template, guidance on handling access questions, and an event advertising checklist. Since publication, it has been downloaded over 160 times, adopted by two UK universities, and is in discussion with three more. It is now being implemented with Dundee University Students Association and the University of Dundee.

Lucy’s wider work follows the same thread, making systems work better for the people navigating them. Her undergraduate dissertation, a mixed-methods study on airport ableism, was presented at the BPS Scottish Branch Conference, and she has written for The Psychologist, the British Psychological Society’s official magazine, on systemic barriers in clinical psychology training. She has also presented at the Cambridge Access to Mental Health and Psychiatry Programme and contributes to research at the University of Dundee.

Alongside this, she supports adults in crisis and recovery through Penumbra’s Angus Peer Service and Hope Point Dundee.
