Our Status of Young Women in Scotland report showed that only 30% of young women in Scotland report having positive experiences with healthcare professionals.

Together with young women and healthcare professionals we co-produced an animation and training workshop to improve healthcare experiences for young women.

The project team included researchers from the University of Bristol, SHIFT, the Women’s Health Plan Scotland Team at the Scottish Government, and the Association for Young People’s Health.

Young women want healthcare professionals to:

  • Listen to them
  • Be mindful of stereotypes and power imbalances
  • Believe them
  • Validate their experiences and emotions
  • Explain next steps and offer options
  • Work with them as partners in their care
