Two women smile at the camera. Text reads: Be a councillor workshop

Only 35% of Scotland’s councillors are women, despite us making up 51% of the population. This is even lower for young women, with less than 15% of all councillors in Scotland being aged 18-44.

We’re inviting young women across Scotland to join our free online workshop to give you all the information you need to start your journey towards becoming a councillor.

You’ll learn:

  • what councillors do
  • how to put yourself forward for selections
  • how to campaign
  • what to expect in elected office.

You’ll hear directly from current councillors in Scotland about how they first got involved in politics and what their experience has been like since, so you know what to expect as you set out on this exciting journey ahead. You will also meet a network of other women considering putting themselves forward in the 2027 Scottish local elections, because we’re stronger together.

This event is being delivered in partnership with Elect HER.

This event is open to all  young women and girls, including transgender women, and non-binary people who feel comfortable in a space that centres the experiences of young women and girls, aged 18–30 years old.
