The camera looks down on a young woman, bending over a garden plot and holding garden tools. She looks up at the camera smiling. She has dark hair and is wearing a fleece.

In a world where many people speak about change, Fatima quietly becomes the change through the way she lives her life and treats others. She is tackling the injustices she feels by building a community-interest-company for her and others like her that have been abandoned by the system. As a care-experienced young person, Fatima knows how to turn adversity into compassion – she understands struggle, but she also understands hope, purpose and rebuilding.

As well as being a founder of In Potential CIC, seeking to rebuild a sense of purpose for young people whilst repairing-restoring and contributing to a Circular economy, she is a volunteer with Woodcraft Folk Scotland, leading sessions for children with themes of equality and and youth empowerment, cooking community meals regularly for over 50+ people a week at GalGael and has more recently been working with Lanarkshire Pride,to offer a safe space for queer youth in more deprived areas of Glasgow. In whatever spare time remains, she’s studying Permaculture, commonly known as ‘a revolution disguised as gardening’, while getting her hands dirty in the community allotment. Fatima dreams to make organically grown food and herbal medicine accessible to all, and is currently undertaking a course in Community Herbalism with Grass Roots Remedies Co-operative, in hope that she can become a community herbal practitioner with a consciousness of ecologically responsible practices.

At twenty one years old, Fatima is already creating meaningful change across communities in Glasgow through care, inclusion, sustainability and grassroots action. She represents a generation of young women who are rebuilding connections in a living world that we often feel disconnected from.

Fatima is making real change where it matters, and is someone to keep an eye on.
