Young Women Demand
Young Women Demand is a programme to encourage young women’s democratic engagement, based on the findings of our Status of Young Women in Scotland 2024/25 and Young Women Lead 2024 research.
Young Women Demand is a bold, young women-led campaign designed to strengthen democratic participation, political literacy and leadership among young women.
As young women together, in solidarity – we aren’t just joining the conversation, we’re leading it.
In 2025-2026, Young Women Demand focussed on engaging young women and encouraging them to vote in the May 2026 Scottish Parliament elections.
In 2026-2027, Young Women Demand will form a policy scrutiny group to analyse Scottish Parliamentary policy impacting young women and girls.
This will include content making policy more accessible to young women and girls across Scotland and hosting events with elected officials.
Young Women Demand:
- The promotion of young women’s human rights through the introduction of a Human Rights Bill for Scotland
- The prevention and elimination of violence against young women and girls by providing sustained funding for women’s and youth organisations
- The address online violence against young women and girls through the robust regulation of digital technologies
- The tackling of misogynistic and sexist views, attitudes and behaviours amongst young men and boys through increased educational interventions
- Equitable healthcare access and outcomes for young women and girls, particularly in mental health and sexual and reproductive healthcare, by prioritising women’s health as a key policy area
- Equal opportunities for young women and girls to get involved in politics, democracy and decision-making processes
