Natalie Kocisova
Age: 24
Location: Dundee
Pronouns: she/her
When Natalie relocated to Dundee, she experienced first-hand the challenges of loneliness and the difficulty of making friends as an adult. Aware of the toll loneliness can take on mental health, she became determined to create a space where women could connect, build confidence, and form friendships.
In August 2023, she launched Girls Who Walk Dundee, a social and walking group with the mission of tackling loneliness and social isolation, one step at a time. Through this initiative, Natalie and her volunteer team have organised chatty walks around the city, as well as a variety of social events and skill-building workshops for women of all ages and backgrounds. Since the start of 2024 alone, more than 700 women have attended the walks, and over 25 sold-out social events have provided opportunities for local women to try everything from craft workshops and fitness classes to leisure activities.
While regular walks are at the heart of the group, taking place weekly, Natalie ensures there’s something for everyone by organising diverse events each month. From boxing and yoga classes to a monthly craft club, jewellery-making workshops, alpaca walks, and more – the activities are designed to be fun, affordable, and accessible, to ensure there are no barriers to making new friends.
Beyond helping women connect, Natalie has also used some of these events as an opportunity to raise funds for local women’s charities. Natalie hopes to continue bringing women together, fostering meaningful connections, and opening up important conversations about loneliness and its impact on mental health.
