Emma is an early-career theatre producer based in Musselburgh. She is co-founder and Chief Executive of the charity Framework Theatre, Scotland’s Support Organisation for emerging theatre makers.
Framework Theatre was founded in 2018, shifting to become an artist development organisation in order to challenge the closed shop nature of the theatre industry and provide work to early-career artists in an open and transparent way. Framework regularly provides paid opportunities to 20-40 artists a year, and offers networking and workshops for 200+ artists. This organisation is designed to challenge the issues faced by Emma when they entered the industry in 2018.
As well as this, Emma is an independent producer and director who makes work championing underrepresented voices in theatre – to bring new stories to the stage. Prior to entering the theatre industry, Emma spent eight years as a member of the National Youth Arts Advisory Group for Scotland – advising on cultural strategy and supporting the distribution of youth arts funding. Through this work, they have spoken or hosted events at each of the last four Edinburgh International Culture Summit’s. They were also a member of Communic18, the steering group for the Year of Young People in 2018, which included delivering a workshop in the European Parliament.
