Lauren’s passion for human rights is evident through her dedication to community and activism. From volunteering in 2016, Lauren became an integral part of the Kinning Park Complex (KPC) in Glasgow where she held a myriad of responsibilities from event management, engagement and communications.
She was also part of the team transforming the site and taking it under independent ownership, a huge success for the work of the community. Within her current role at Repair Cafe Glasgow, she champions the repair movement, leading campaigns such as the Pram Project, repairing and recycling old prams for those in supported living. This campaign generated an overwhelming response through social media and widespread exposure for the Repair Cafe. Lauren has been successful in bringing together all members of the community through volunteering and attendance at events and workshops, focussed on sustainability and female engagement in skilled workshops.
Outside of her work she has lead the Scottish Irish Abortion Rights Campaign during the Repeal the 8th Referendum in 2018, coordinating education for Irish girls in Glasgow in the importance and opportunity for them to vote whilst living abroad. Lauren has also been an integral part of protesting the against evictions actioned by Serco. She dedicated time to working with refugees and spoke to local councillors, the CEO of the Scottish Refugee Council and spread word of the protest throughout social media. Lauren describes herself as having no inhibitions concerning human rights advocacy and seeks to raise the voices of community, developing values and ethics that create a greater platform for equality and future generations.
