Over several months beginning in November 2018, 30 participants from a range of diverse communities came together in the Scottish Parliament to run their own committee inquiry, focusing on a topic of their choice: the relationship young women have with sport and physical activity and barriers to participation.
The inquiry focused on four main strands, and the report provides insights and recommendations for all:
- how socioeconomic status and protected characteristics impact participation in and access to sport and physical activity
- how sport and physical activity are provided in schools
- how societal pressures and external influences such as social media impact on participation in sport and physical activity
- examples of good practice in provision of sport and physical activity
This was the second Young Women Lead cohort, following on from the 2017–18 inquiry into sexual harassment in schools.
