Hello, our names are Jo, Addie and Hannah, and we are three Chinese adoptees who started Whatever Next?, an award-winning project that highlights and amplifies adoptee voices. We share insights from our daily lives to create a better understanding of adoption and connect those interested or involved in the adoptee experience. We strive to positively impact the adoptive community while challenging misconceptions. Since founding Whatever Next? in January 2021, we have won the 2022 Young Scot Award for the Equality and Diversity category, the 2021 Creative Edinburgh Student Award, received the Awesome Without Borders grant and were shortlisted for the EUSA Student Awards for Lasting Impact. Our podcast has had 1k+ streams, our website has had 7k+ views in 42 countries, and over 2.5k followers across our social media platforms (as of April 2022.) We have featured on BBC Radio Scotland, LBC, and The Sunday Mail, and have held talks for the UK Government’s Race Forum and CACH-All Charity. Most recently, we published a book with 404Ink (publication date 25th August) as part of their inklings range where we plan to deliver a book focused on explaining traditional narratives of adoption portrayed in the media.
