In my day job, I am a career baker and have run a deli/bakery with my Mum for the past seven years. I’m also currently training to be a nutrition coach, specialising in Women’s Health. I have severe Endometriosis and Polycystic ovaries and am scheduled for my fourth major surgery in the last five years very soon.
Living in the Highlands means I, and many others, face an extreme lack of healthcare access, with many basic services centralised to over 100 miles away via horrendous roads. 200 miles if you need Endometriosis or Fertility services.
When two friends and I set up the North Highland Women’s Wellbeing Hub, we aimed to provide support to women in the highlands and fight for improved access to care. Accessible care for all is a basic Human Right and I am passionate about making sure this promise is upheld. I use our social platforms to educate others on what their rights are and to bust taboos around subjects such as painful sex, what Endometriosis actually is, how to speak to your doctor and the unspoken symptoms of menopause (to name a few!).
The hub is voluntarily run by women with lived experience, helping other women feel less alone in their journey and empowering them with knowledge – which I am extremely proud of. I’m blown away to be listed on the 30 under 30 list and I hope the Women’s Health movement of the Highlands helps encourage others to start up their own. There’s strength in numbers.
