Anna is a young farmer working on her family’s beef and arable farm near Burntisland, Fife. She studied law and holds two Masters degrees in International Law of Global Security, Peace and Development, specialising in economics, sustainability and governance, and International Security. Alongside her farming work, Anna is completing her legal traineeship, sits on the Nature Friendly Farming Network Scotland Steering Group and is a member of Nourish Scotland’s Meaningful Participation Panel.
Following the loss of her father in a farming accident when she was 16, Anna has experienced first-hand many of the challenges facing the agricultural sector. Recognising the fundamental role that law and policy play in shaping how we produce, distribute and consume food, she became frustrated by the limited opportunities for young people to meaningfully engage in policy design. These experiences strengthened her determination to make food and farming governance more inclusive.
In 2025, Anna founded the UK Youth Food and Farming Forum (UK YFFF), a youth-led platform seeking to reimagine how young voices are recognised, engaged and amplified within food and farming policy spaces. Since launching at the World Food Forum in Rome, the UK YFFF has developed partnerships with 13 organisations across the food system and become the UK Chapter of the World Food Forum. Through her work developing the Forum, Anna has helped create opportunities for young people to engage with policymakers, contribute to policy discussions, and develop their advocacy skills.
Alongside this, Anna is actively involved in advancing sustainable farming practices on her family farm. As a Pulse Pioneer, she is undertaking bean crop trials as part of a collaborative research project bringing together farmers, academics and industry partners to explore the potential for home-grown legumes to enhance soil health and lower carbon emissions.
Through her work across farming, law and policy, Anna hopes to challenge perceptions of who can lead change in agriculture and empower the next generation to shape a more sustainable food system.
