Alice is a journalist, presenter, and producer, who has spent her career telling stories that engage a young (mostly female) audience, and working to help other young people get their foot in the door of the media industry. After years of feeling like she didn’t fit into conventional news spaces, Alice carved her own niche in the industry by pitching and creating The Conscious Closet series for BBC Scotland. Her content, making sustainable fashion accessible for young people has featured on Radio Scotland, the BBC Scotland Channel, and iPlaer.
You might also recognise her from BBC News’s main TikTok and Instagram accounts. Alice was the first (and so far only) Scottish full-time presenter on the platforms, presenting to a TikTok audience of nearly 4 million, and an Instagram audience of over 27 million. Her role was about connecting young people to the news, highlighting stories that are ‘for them’, and to be a reliable and impartial voice in the noisy world of social media. Alice has also used her practical content skills as a producer for BBC Scotland’s The Social project. In her role she helped dozens of young people from across Scotland have their work published by the BBC. She also helped create The Social Connects, an RTS award-nominated project that worked with 10 partner colleges across Scotland and the North East of England. The project has helped over 100 young people from underrepresented areas gain workplace skills and have their work published with the BBC in its first year alone.
In September 2024, Alice took the plunge into the world of freelancing. She continues to tell stories across Scotland, with a particular interest in promoting the country’s diverse culture scene. Above all, Alice hopes her work proves that you don’t have to dress or sound a particular way to succeed in the world of factual content.
