Sonali Misra (she/her) is an author and PhD Researcher in Publishing Studies at the University of Stirling, Scotland.

Her debut nonfiction book, 21 Fantastic Failures: and what their stories teach us, was released in 2020. Her short stories and personal essays have appeared in Scottish, Canadian and Indian anthologies. Most recently, she was among the 10 winners of The National Library of Scotland’s Fresh Ink initiative, and her commissioned personal essay has been added to the Library archives. The same essay, ‘Dear Sonali’, was also a top-8 finalist for the inaugral Anne Brown Essay Prize organised by Wigtown Book Festival in association with BBC Radio Scotland. Sonali is the Co-founder of The Selkie Publications CIC (www.theselkie.co.uk), which promotes and publishes underrepresented voices, and the Co-chair of the Society of Young Publishers Scotland, which supports aspiring and early-career publishing professionals. She is also on the Writers’ Advisory Group of Literature Alliance Scotland. In 2021, Sonali completed a 6-month artist residency at the University of Edinburgh Museums, working on their Prescribe Culture programme for which she created and facilitated writing-for-wellbeing workshops for those with low-level mental health concerns. Prior to moving to Scotland, Sonali worked in editorial and product (sales) roles at Scholastic and Hachette in India. She is now a resident of Edinburgh and is currently working on a political adventure fantasy novel, which made it to the top 20 of Hachette UK’s Grow Your Story programme in 2020.
