Since joining the Scottish Parliament as a Modern Apprentice at 17, Alanis has worked in a variety of teams across the organisation including SPICe (the information and research centre); Committee Engagement Unit (public engagement team); Events and Exhibitions; and Committee Office.

While working as an Events Officer she led the delivery of the Scotland’s Women Stand event in 2019, supporting better visibility and participation of women in Parliament, and designed a public event to mark the Scottish Parliament’s 20th Anniversary. At 22, she then became one of the youngest people to work as an Assistant Clerk. In this role, she supports the Citizen Participation and Public Petitions Committee by preparing petition papers, advising MSPs, supporting petitioners, and clerking committee meetings. In 2022, Alanis worked with a 7-year-old petitioner to bring his petition before the Committee at a formal meeting. The Committee’s work on this resulted in it winning the Powering Change Award (Scottish Political Awards).
