Young Women Lead | AI

Young Women Lead is a programme which gives young women from across Scotland an opportunity to make real change in the lives of young women and girls, while developing their leadership skills, knowledge and confidence. Young Women Lead 2025 will support young women to co-design a project on the impacts of AI on young women.

Time commitment and travel

  • Session 1/introduction (online): Wednesday 26th February, 6–8pm  
  • Session 2 (in person): Saturday 22nd March, 10.30am–3.30pm
  • Session 3 (in person): Saturday 19th April, 10.30am–3.30pm
  • Session 4: (in person): Saturday 17th May, 10.30am–3.30pm 
  • Session 5 (online): Wednesday 28th May, 6–8pm     
  • Session 6 (online): Wednesday 11th June, 6–8pm
  • Session 7 (in person): Saturday 12th July, 10.30am–3.30pm
  • Session 8 (in person): Saturday 26th July, 10.30am–3.30pm

In person sessions will take place in Glasgow, Dundee or Edinburgh, based on what is most convenient for the selected group. Travel costs will be covered for all in-person sessions. 

Participants will be expected to attend a minimum of 5 of the 8 sessions, and ideally attend all 8. The participants will also be expected to commit approx. 1-2 hours per week for 5 weeks in February/March to complete self-led, online learning with Scottish AI to develop a foundational understanding of the topic.

Shortlisting will take place on Wednesday 19th February. We will notify successful applicants by email in the week beginning Monday 24th February.

About you

Please apply if you:

  • are aged 16–25
  • live anywhere in Scotland
  • identify as a young woman
  • are passionate about leading change for young women and girls.

Prior experience/knowledge of AI isn’t required. All participants will have the opportunity to complete foundation level learning with Scottish AI.

What you’ll get out of it

  • To make a difference to the lives of young women and girls in Scotland. 
  • Meet new people and make new friends. 
  • Develop new skills – confidence, public speaking, communication, strategic thinking, understanding of democratic wellbeing and the wider impacts on young women and girls.  
  • Participants will be part of The Young Women’s Movement, with additional and optional follow-on opportunities like joining a participatory or peer research programme, influencing our policy contributions, building campaigns, speaking at or attending events on our behalf, joining our Advisory Collective. 
  • Networking with high profile stakeholders and other feminist organisations in policy, campaigning and youth work and tech. 
  • Feminist leadership opportunities like speaking at events, committees and workshops.  
  • Connecting with other young women with similar lived experience.  

Expectations

  • Align with the values of The Young Women’s Movement, treating everyone with dignity, respect and fairness. 
  • Follow agreed safe spaces agreements including respecting confidentiality and different viewpoints. 
  • Commit approx. 1-2 hours per week for 5 weeks in February/March to complete self-led, online learning with Scottish AI to develop a foundational understanding of the topic.
  • Attend a minimum of 5 out of 8 meetings and advise us in advance if you are unable to attend. 
  • Support a fun and enthusiastic environment for everyone.
