Handling a mental health condition can be incredibly isolating. When you lump on the pressure of society’s expectations of women – it becomes overwhelming.
After Mandy Jones attempted to take her own life in March 2018, she shared her story online in a bid to help anyone else in a similar mental state. By reaching out, women came to meet her. There and then, The Empowered Woman Project was born.
Women from all over Scotland were given a platform to express their issues, including: post-natal depression, anxiety, anorexia, low self-esteem. Despite the Project’s recent inception, it has already developed into a podcast (available on iTunes), events, and empowerment street missions practicing random acts of kindness.
The street missions appear in two forms: giving women a yellow rose in exchange of a self-compliment, and leaving ‘kindness cards’ on the street for anyone to pick up. Can you think of anything sweeter?
